Newfoundland Labrador Basketball Association: Programs

The NLBA is pleased to announce that starting Fall 2023 we will be launching our Select Skills Academy. This program will be directed toward athletes between grades 4 and 7 and will focus on the fundamental skills necessary to grow into a high-level basketball player.

The athletes will gather monthly to work on footwork, ballhandling, passing, finishing, and shooting, in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Each weekend will include 2 one hour and a half training sessions and the cost will be $450.00 for the year. The skill sessions will be led by the NLBA technical staff as well as some of the best coaches on the island as guests and assistants. Our youngest athletes often work together with our beginning coaches and the Skill Academy will be aimed at helping these coaches and players develop and gather the necessary knowledge to move forward in the game. Often, in a school or club atmosphere, time must be devoted to concepts and ideas that help athletes compete, in the Skill Academy these young athletes will get extra time to work on the skills that are necessary to help them progress without the stress of competition.

We are excited about this new step in basketball development for our organization and the young players in the province. There will not be any try-outs, this will be a first come first served program and all will be welcome, we have the space to accommodate many athletes in the program.

The NLBA is excited for this new program to get started and look forward to sharing our knowledge with the next generation of great players in the province and all their coaches. Registration will be online through the NLBA website.
