Newfoundland & Labrador Basketball Association 2018 Provincial Team Tryouts

Provincial Team Tryout Camps for: Midget Boys and Girls; U16 Boys and Girls & U14 Boys and Girls
Site: NLSC, 100 Crosbie Road, St. John's, NL
Dates: April 3-5, 2018

Tryout Cost: U14 Programs - $65.00 per athlete / player
Tryout Cost: U15 and U16 Programs - $80.00 per athlete / player

The brochure and registration form will also be on the NLBA website. The tryouts will take place over the Easter holidays, and this will be the only tryouts for these summer programs. The deadline to register is March 26, 2018.

Executive Director Basketball Position

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association (NLBA) is now accepting applications for the full-time position of Executive Director. The NLBA is the provincial sport governing body for amateur basketball in the province. Located in the city of Paradise, the NLBA is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to provide leadership and to develop the sport of basketball at all levels domestically and nationally.

The Candidate:
As Executive Director, you are responsible for the effective and efficient management of the association's activities and resources in accordance with direction provided by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director, in this capacity, shall work with the Board of Directors in the development, review and implementation of association policy and an understanding of the provincial and national basketball scene. The candidate should be a high energy individual capable of multi-tasking, possess good organizational skills along with financial and staff management abilities. The individual must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage extremely busy day-to-day operations of the organization. An understanding of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD) is crucial. Computer skills would include knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Simply Accounting. Social media and website management abilities would also be an asset.


  • A related university or college degree or related experience in sports administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An understanding of the sport of basketball at the provincial and national sport environment.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the NCCP, LTAD, Steve Nash and Jr. NBA programs.
  • Willingness to work extra hours as required to compete tasks and available to work week nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Travel will be required both provincially and nationally on occasion.
  • A valid driver's license and a Vulnerable Sector/Code of Conduct Certificate required.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
